Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday focused on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.  The celebration takes place on October 31-November 2 and is related to All Souls Day.  Families build private altars honoring the deceased and celebrate using sugar skulls, favorite foods of the departed, visiting the graves with gifts and decorating with marigolds.  These pictures show Catrina, one of the most popular figures of Day of the Dead celebrations, and examples of sugar skulls.  (information from Wikipedia)
